Laura Brannan is a Ph.D. student at the History and Art History Department at George Mason University. She is interested in how space and place interact with historical remembrances, especially in terms of race, class, gender, and Southern identity. Prior to her doctoral studies, she completed a Master’s of Arts in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Georgia State University. Her Master’s experience significantly informed her analyses of power and place, which she continues to use as a critical lens to view history and modern-day racial issues in the U.S. in regard to reconciliation and community engagement with memory.
